SAMOAN CHIEFS' VISIT.
UNDER GOVERNMENT AEGIS. EDUCATIVE AND INSTRUCTIVE. RECEPTION BY MINISTERS. [by TELEGRAPH. OWN correspondent]. WELLINGTON. Friday. Arrangements are now well forward for the visit of the eight Sajnotan chiefs and faipules, who will arrive in Auckland next Wednesday. These chiefs are being brought to New Zealand by the Government, and the programme has been designed, not only to be entertaining, but educative and instructive, as at is desired by the Samoan administration to transfer to the faipules or native wunsellors of the Samoan people an increasing share in the control and administration of their village affairs. While in New Zealand the chiefs will wear t&cir ordinary Samoan dress, except that they will replace the white linen coaf; with a wollen vest and coat suitable for the change of climate which they wijll experience. The visitors will be tajcen to Rotorua on December 5, and on t'pe following day they will bo received by tjie Arawa Maori Council, and entertained at Whakaturia. The usual round of sight-seeing will be mado at Rotorua. There will be visits too various industrial establishments around Cambridge and Hamilton.
The chiefs will arrivo in Wellington on Saturday, December £3, their journey on the way down frona the North being broken at Shannon inj order that they may be taken to see the Mangahao hydro-electric station. On the Monday there will be a reception bv Cabinet Ministers at Parliament Buildings, followed by a Government luncheon. After being received by th»3 Governor-General the chiefs, on December 23, will leave for Auckland, where* they will remain until January 3, when they will depart by the Tofua for Samoa.

GATHERING JIN AUCKLAND.
In connection v*th the visit to Auckland of the Sampan chiefs, a welcome meeting will bo .held in the Beresford Street Congregatipnal Church next Wednesday evening. The Hon. George Fowlds .will preside. The Congregational Churches have a special interest in. Samoan affairs as they are closely allied with the work of the London Missionary Society, at .whose school the majority of the visiting chiefs received their education.
