In the county championship Gloucester defeated Oxford University by 23 points to 16. Aitken. of New Zealand, played for Oxford and scored a tiy. Cumberland beat Lancashire by 22 to nil; Leicestershire defeated East Midlands by 5 to nil. The Northern Union games resulted ;— Yorkshire Cup: Semi-finals, Hull, 8, v. Kingston Batley, 10; Leeds, 4, v. Wakefield, 5. Lancashire Cup: Semi-finals, Barrow, 5, v. St. Helens Bees, 7; St. Helens, 9, v. Oldham, 16.

In the amateur international Association football match, England v. Ireland,, played at Belfast, England won by 3 goals to 2. Cambridge University beat London Caledonians by 4 goals to 0; Oxford University were defeated by „Corinthians by 3 goals to 2.
PROFESSIONAL BILLIARDS.
SMITH DEFEATS NEWMAN.
(Received 7.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. Nov. 8. In a billiards match of 16,000 up Smith defeated Newman, running out when the latter was 15,531. Smith carried an unfinished break of 747 to 1173. This is the highest in his career.
BOXING IN AUSTRALIA.
TWO HARD-FOUGHT CONTESTS.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Eecd. 7.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 9.
At the Sydney Stadium last evening Eugene Volaire beat Billy Stanley in the 11th round of a hard-fought and exciting contest.
At Melbourne Dick Congress beat Micky Walker in the 12th round cf a punishing figßt. Both Walker's eyes were closed when the towel, was skied.
NEW WALKING RECORDS.
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 9.
The seven miles inter-State walking championship was won by G. Parker (New South Wales), who again broke four Australian records which ho had made on the previous Saturday. He covered four miles in 26m. 42 l-55., five in 37m. 285., six in 45m. 17 4-55.. and seven in 53m. 7s.
New South Wales beat Victoria in the senior teams' championship, but Victoria turned the tables in the junior championship.
