ATHLETICS FOR GIRSL.

SPORTS AT CARLAW PARK. RENDELL'S WIN CHALLENGE CUP BRIGHT SPECTACLE IN SUNSHINE.

Thero was another large assembly at Carlaw Park on Saturday afternoon to watch the final competitions of the interhouso girls' sports. If anything, the tournament was more successful than, that of the previous Saturday, as the occasion was favoured by glorious summer weather. From the opening grand march, with its pageant of 200 girls in their neat, coloured 6ports attire, to the concluding event, the utmost enthusiasm was displayed, and joyful feminine laughter and high-pitched cheers added a new note to the sporting traditions of the city. The obvious eagerness and delight which the girls manifested in the various events, and the spirit and enthusiasm of the spectators, augurs well for the future of girls' athletic sports in Auckland.' The organisers displayed a thorough appreciation of the requirements that was bound to achieve success. They have fostered a good-natured and spirited rivalry between the several competing houses, they have taken a forward step in the direction of improving the physical prowess and culture of the many girls whose summer days are spent in shops, factories and warehouses, and they have offered an organised spectacle to the public of Auckland which even the most sedate and fastidious must enjoy. The net proceeds of Saturday's gathering, for which only a nominal charge of admission was made, totalled £35, and will be donated to the Jubilee Institute for the Blind.
