MUNICIPAL CHOIR.

An enjoyable programmo" of choral, solo and organ music was presented at the Town Hall on Saturday evening. As is usual when the Municipal Choir makes an appearance, there was a particularly large audience, which manifested its appreciation by* insisting on repeated recalls. Unusual interest was shown in in singing of Miss Esther Plumb, a distinguished American vocalist, who is engaged on a tour of the Dominion. It was her first public appearance iu_New Zealand. She is possessed of a fine mezzo-soprano voice of very wide range, and exhibited its inflections in a series of well-chosen songs. They were "Ah! Mon Fils," from. Meyerbeer's "Le Prophete," "Psyche" (Paladilho), and "Love is the Wind" (MacFadyeu). Sho was cordially received, and repeatedly encored. The Municipal Choir aang the "Hymn to Music" (Dudley Buck), "Celtic Hymn" (Roberton), "Departure" (Mendelssohn), and West's arrangement of "Wi* a Hundred Pipers." Mr. Maughan Barnett, who was also recalled, played on the organ Guilmani's "Grand Choeur," "At Evening" (Dudley Buck). "First Sonata" (Mendelssohn), and "Good-Night" (Kevin). Mr. Leo Whittaker accompanied at the piano for the vocal numbers. • CONCERT AND gANCE RECITAL. A concert and dance recital •will be held in the Town-Hall on November 18 and 19, under the auspices of' the Auckland Cricket Association. The object of the ent«rtainment is to raise funds for the assistance of Auckland cricket generally, and more especially to advance the work of the Primary Schools Association. Many of the besUcnown local performers will take part, and original dance solos and scenas, including Jm£P»? Pied Piper," will be staged ■by Miss Daphne Knight's pupils.
