ALLEGED COEMPTION.
SYDNEY PETROL STORE.
POSITION OF AN ALDERMAN.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Ilecd. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 7. In connection with the extension of the terms of reference oi the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of civic corruption, it was stated the Crown would allege that the terms of prospective tenancy of the petrol store required the landlord to erect a petrol pump outside the premises. The chief of the traffic department, opposed this. Alderman Walker was interviewed, and subsequently the City Council's approval was given. It is alleged that Alderman Walker was given a cheque for £25 by til estate agent concerned with the property, whicli he endorsed and paid into the bank. This, the Crown alleges, was for using his influence as an alderman in securing the erection of the pump. Owing to tlie difficulty of securing witnesses the commission adjourned till Monday.
