CANAL LEAGUE MOVEMENT.
In connacUiou with the formation of a canal league, the Canal League Convening Committee which was recently formed reports that it .has arranged with Messrs. H R. Mackenzie (chairman), M. H. \\ynvaxd and George Parr, of the Auckland Harbour Board, to address a public meeting Thev are strong supporters of a 'canal scheme and are in full possession of all data hitherto collected. A total of 265 entries has bean received for the Kennel Show, to- be held in connection with the Agricultural Show on November 19. They are from all parts of the North Island. A poll of ratepayers of the recentlyformed Maiora Rabbit Board District resulted in a unanimous decision for rating on the acreage basis. The board met sub- ' sequeatlv and decided upon a rate of 8d per acre upon all ratable property m the Ghezsie, Gurney, Sellars, W. L West and H. Wright have been reelected unopposed as members of the Otaua, Drainage Board. Mr. West was re-elected chairman. The annual concert tendered by Mrs. Maurice in aid of the local branch of fbe Returned Soldiers' Association proved a great success. The funds of the association will be benefited by about £20.
