MATAMATA HOSPITAL.
REQUEST FOR FENCING. • ADVOCATE OF SELF-HELP* [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Friday. A desire that the spirit of self-help should further actuate the people of Matamata with regard to the requirements of their cottage hospital was expressed by Mr. A, G. Dent at the meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board yesterday, when a request' was received for £4i for the purpole of fencing the hospital section. Mr. Be.il pointed out that the Kawhia people had contributed material and had Organised socials and other means of raising money for the financing of similar work. It was stated by Mr. A* Blackmail that the people of Te Kuiti had raised £1900 for tneir hospital, while. Mr. J. A. Ryburn said that in Ngahinepouri £26 had been raised at a social. Ho thought the people of Matamata could raise a good deal more than that if they tried. Dr. Gower mentioned that the fencing was needed, and said he thought that the neighbours should contribute toward the cost. The secretary, Mr. W. I. Conradi, said the people of Matamata had raised £33 in August for furniture. Apart from the gift of the late Mr. Browne of the site and £500, the people had also raised £500 for the hospital. The matter was referred to the representative for Matamata, Mr. Price, and the local committee.
