" GOVERNMENT REPORT. - The Government meteorologist reported last night as —Present indications are for variable winds, but westerlies prevailing, ' backing to southerlies northward of .Westport and Kaikoura, and southerlies, freshening elsewhere; weather cloudy and ' unsettled, with rain in many parts, and heavy rain probable in the southernmost districts.
