AUCKLAND'S BUSY PORT.

EVERY BERTH OCCUPIED.

NOT SUFFICIENT WORKERS,

The Port of Auckland was exceptionally busy yesterday, all the berths at the wharves being occupied with one vessel in the stream awaiting a berth. The Orari, Port Denison and Bessa were at the Queen's Wharf, and the Waimarino at the Western Wharf, while at the Princes Wharf were the Earori, Wingatui, Hertford, Navua, Mako and Aupouri. The Koromiko, Kawatiri, Karroo and Trewyn were berthed at the King's Wharf and the Makura, Arahura and Omana at the Central Wharf. The Omana sailed last- night and the Katoa will shift this morning from Chelsea and take the vacant berth.

The Kaituna arrived yesterday morning from Napier with a part cargo of coal from Westport. Arrangements could have been made for her to berth at the Prince's Wharf but as her cargo is for discharge into railway trucks she an* chored in the stream until a berth is vacant at one of the wharves connected with the railway. The large number of vessels •in port caused a temporary- shortage of waterside labourers. This will cause a delay in despatching the vessels from Auckland. The Makura, Arahura and Aupouri will sail to-day but it is doubtful if any others will get away before tomorrow. The congestion will continue all this week as vessels are expected shortly. Tomorrow the Ulimaroa is due from Sydney, the Tofua from Fiji, and the Port Caroline from London. The Niels Nielsen is also duo at any time from San Francisco and the Allara at an early date from New York, and the liner Rotorua about Saturday from tho south.
