MATCH AGAINST HARLEQUINS.

The Harlequins began a match at Eastbourne to-day against the South African cricketers. The former were disposed of for 73 runs. Pegler took 5 wickets for 34 ' and Blanckenberg 5 for 34. South Africa, in their first innings scored 162 (Taylor b% and Commaille 48). Bettington took 7 wickets for 52. Harlequins in their second innings had 13 on for the loss of one wicket when stumps were drawn. The wicket was sticky. Bettington worried the South Africans. He brilliantly caught Taylor off his own bowling. The Daily Chronicle states that Nupen, of the South African team, is *<oing to Cambridge University. At the Newport tennis tournament Brookes (Australia) defeated Thayer, 6—o, 6—3. In the doubles, Brookes and Sehlesinger defeated Oushman and Ridgway by default; Kalms and Weinstein defeated Semple and Rowland, 6—3, 6—l. In the second round Kalms and Weinstein defeated Norton and Brown, 4—6, 6—l, 6—4; Brookes and Schlesinger defeated Guild and Gardner, 6—4, B—lo, 6—2. .
