M., : Bruce, states that it has been agreed that in consideration of the Federal election, the pact between the Nationalist and Country Parties shall remain in abeyance until the Budget has been introduced in the Federal Parliament. ©ROUHDING OF THE BRISBANE. '• • MELBOURNE. July 29. The naval authorities state that although the chart of the approaches to Port Moresby, which was in use aboard the cruiser Brisbane when she went ashore recently, is not of recent date, there is no reason to suppose that it is either obsolete or misleading. They say that navigation in coral waters is extremely difficult. Doubtless at the time the Brisbane grounded the conditions were not alto l gether favourable. .The chart in question had been corrected up to 1919.

Official statistics show that in 1922-1922 there were 15 fruit canneries operating under the Commonwealth Fruit Pool. This number has now increased to 29. The pool.in 1922-1923 packed 1,569,687 doiten tins, and this was increased to 2,059,551 dozen tins in 1925-1924.
