NEWMARKET RAIL CROSSINGS.
Sir, —The Newmarket Borough Council persists in its cantankerous attitude iirith regard to extending Carlton Gore Road through part of the reserve to Manukau Eoad. The council ! lately professed a great regard for this reserve, but for Very many years indeed' the state of it was a disgrace to Newmarket, and only recently has it been pnt in order. The present streets, King Street and Victoria Street, are simply lanes, and totally unsuitable for increasing motor traffic, and the holding up of traffic. The natural and comparatively inexpensive roadway is through the reserve. Under the circumstances the Railway Department is j amply justified in refusing to spend any money on a traffic bridge here. T.G.
