Radio stations are to be established at Montreal and Vancouver as links in the Empire wireless programme. The arrangements have been completed between the British and Canadian Governments and the Marconi Company. The new-stations will be on the shortwave beam system. They will be owned by. the Marconi Company and will have a guaranteed operating speed of 100 words a minute. '' AUSTRALIA'S POSITION. ENGINEER'S STATEMENT. ADVANTAGES' OF THE BEAM. A. and N.Z. LONDON, July 24. Mr: A. J. Gibson, the well-known Queensland engineer, in commenting on the provisional agreement regarding Ira perial .wireless installations, said that the ground was now clear for the Dominions to take action. Thi3 had previously been impossible. It was most satisfactory to know that the British Government was preparing to give Australia either the high power or the beam system. , The former could not be erected within two years. . It was essential that communication should be established at 'the earliest moment. He was confident that the Commonwealth Would take the necessary steps to connect the two countries with the beam system, although it migfit not be sufficient for all requirements, as it would only give a daily service of seven hours outside- of business hours. Beam communication could be obtained within eight months. It might then be necessary to erect a super-sEation to ensure a continuous service.
