BOROUGH COUNCIL DOINGS. RATES FOR CURRENT YEAR. The meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was attended by the Mayor, Mr. R, B, Todd, and Messrs, T. Clements, E. Shepherd, J. W. Whyte, H, J. Hall, T. Whiteley, J. Wilson, J. Brady and J. R. W. Nicholls. The engineer submitted plans and estimates for the sewer drainage of Avenue Road West and the upper portion of Station Road, the amount being £1096. The engineer was instructed to proceed with the work. . 1a progress payment of £759 170 Id in connection with the drainage loan was made to Messrs. Grlnter Bros, for work done. A memorandum was received from Sir James Gunson, Mayor of Auckland, in reference, to traffic control suggesting greater control over (ill vehicles, with power to make a yearly charge on such, the proposals to be placed before Parliament. On the motion of Mr. Whiteley, it Was resolved that, while not supporting the proposals to entirety, the council was of opinion that the powers of local bodies, in connection with vehicles should be largely increased. . ■ It was decided to support Sports Association in the matter of daylight saving. , . Arising out of a letter received from the Department of Health, support was accorded to the matter of the formation of a Metropolitan Water Board. Rates were struck for the current year as follows :~General rate of 2d and 33-64 of Id to the £, hospital and charitable aid rate of 28-64 of Id to the £. A special interest rate of 2d 3-64 of Id in the £ on loans as follows:—Water and drainage £23 500, Great South Road improvement loan of £3000, office and wprksbons oan of £750, nipht-soil service loan of £500, antecedent liability loan of £4850, waterworks loan of £4150, workers' dwellings loan of £1210, quarry and plant loan of £4250. Water rate of 1-144 part of Id id the £, with a minimum charge of 10s per consumer, and a non-consumers' rate of ss. Sanitation rate of 25s per pan per The Mayor mentioned that the combined rates meant exactly 6d to the £, rating of which is on the unimproved disconnection with the request of a recent deputation far' footpath in Pbstage Road, it was decided to expend np to £35 to the form&tion of same.
