CHINESE FOOTBALLERS
DRAW WITH POVERTY !; BAY. GOOD EXHIBITION OF GAME. ENTERTAINED AT CABARET. FBI TELECEAFH.—fBESS ASSOCLMTOK. ] QISBORNE. Pnday. The Chinese Association football team arrived at Gisborne last evening, coming overland from Napier. They were enter- , tained by the local Chinese Association. . The visitors were accorded a civic re? caption thia morning, and in the after- , noon met the Poverty Bay team on the reserve before an attendance of 5000 people. The weather was dull and threatening. ' ■ ■ . ' The game provided a brilliant exposition of football, and should prove a great uplift to " soccer " in Poverty Bay. The combination of the visitors waa much superior to that of the local men, and but for the good work of the backs, especially Roots, who was supported by Banna and McKay, the visitors would have scored on several occasions. The Chinese forward line gave a great display, and clever work was witnessed among the backs. A fine game ended in a draw, neither aide scoring. In the evening thfli visitors wero the guests at a largely-attended cabaret. They will leave ov«irland on Sunday for the South.
