EEGIBTRATION OF HOBSES. It was only to be expected that a tightening up of the procedure in regard to the registration of horses would claim pointed attention at the hands of the New Zealand ■Trotting Association, and Mr. C. P. M«trk. who had given the question most profound thought, [submitted an amended plan in connection therewith to the board of that body at a meeting held last week in Wellington, and it received full approval. In effecli it is to put the onus more on to the owners of horses and to remove some of the douDts term the minds of secretaries of clubs wno. it was alleged, do not fully understand what is required of them. The new plan is that, in addition to the particulars of th<» torse to be registered, which will be filled in as before, on the back of the form will >}e printed a diagram of a horse showing Vie off and near aide* and a diagram of a horse's head. On these diagrams will be shown the marked characteristics of the norse in regard to oolouring, enlargements, or other peculiarities. The secretary of the club issuing the form will still be responsible that the forms are filled in correctly and sent to association. Then follows the other features. When the horse is to race the first time the owner will be compelled to go to the stipendiary steward in attendance, and the horse will be oheckod bv the particulars on the form. Any small alterations to the particulars can then bo made, and there will be a complete description of the horse. If the owner does not comply with this regulation, the horse jrill not be allowed, to start. If the stipendiary steward is satisfied, he will aijrn the foirm.
