A SCHOONER ASHORE.
CABLE PARTS IN GALE.
POSITION REGARDED SECURE. [BY CttBBZSPOITOKJiT.]. GISBOENE. Tuesday. -s« ; The three-masted topsail schooner Warf/, Lord, 135 tons, owned by Messrs. Clare and Clare, went ashore on tfce beach between Oputama and Mahia kvt evening. It is reported that the vessel's position is not in ahy : way serious, and it is expected I;;i that she will be towed off without cum :: culty when, iihe cargo has been discharged' ;;; and the wind and sea moderate. It is stated that the schooner was at; ■ anchor off Waikokopu last evening, there then being a heavy sea, running and ;a strong wind.blowing.. During the height of the gale, at about 7-30, the vessel's! I ;cable parted,:and there was no alternative 4}; t«ut to let her go ashore. Fortunately, :ahef;f struck on a soft, sandy patch, where lies quite firmly. It is unlikely that the;si vessel will sustain damage. The consists mainly of meat boxes made;ijby bf the Public Works staff for the Waftokopu " I line,, and valued at about £2000. When discharge has been completed it is thought I that it will be possible to haul the vesstel; %■.% off without assistance., • ■- "
