SALE OF PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co.. Ltd., report;—At Marshlands on Wednesday, we held a sale of pedigree Jersey cattle on account of Mr. W. J. Chynoweth, arranged with the intention of reducing his herd,_ which had grown to considerable dimensions. The attendance was not as large as the inquiry forecasted, but was nevertheless fairly representative, t Competition fdr the choicest lots was brisk enough, but in many instances the figure reached did not approach the vendor's valuation and these were in consequence passed in. The highest price (145gns.) was ' for lot 9, the 2-year Jersey heifer "Marshlands Fern's . Eminent " 19311, a daughter of one of the vendor's hightesting dams. The purchasers were Messrs. Martib and Murray, Christchurch. Mr;' A. E. Watkins, Takanini' gave SOgns for lot 11, "Marshlands Best, and the same purchaser secured lot 14. . Golden Lady," at 72gns. Lot 20. The Island bred cow, "Golden Fern's Maid," fell to Mr. W. H. Hiers, Eukuhia, at'l4ogtis. Mr. Waterhouse was the purchaser of lot 15, " Distinguished Lady," at 67gns. Lot 1. "Marshlands King Fern," fell ; to Mr. A. C. Smith, Otorohanga, at'62gns. 'The avprage;of the 12 heifers sold was 57gns, Of the cows sold, apart 'from those mentioned* prices ranged from 20gns to 55gne. Of the 12 bulls offered only one was sold, lot 50.
