Monday.;.; Of the 256 workers in the employe of the .Waihi: Grand Junction Gold v Company about a month ago less than 40, including tho members of the staff, now remain. These f include two parties of miners '-:}: working on the empire reef at the y ; eleventh level, and on .the northdrive "of the Mary reef.
Despite the 5 fact ; that over 200 men have been thrown out of work,, the position appears to"('. have practically readjusted itself, and there are very few names on the unemployment book of the Waihi. Miners' Union. ■ Eighty-seven of the men rendered v idle ; have been placed on tha railway and other public ; works between ; Waihi and ' Paeroa, and between 40 and 50 have been taken on by the Waihi 1 Goldmining Company.. Work will shortly be available . for any further men seeking it on the Waihi-Athcnree section of the ■?East; Coast railway, and at the Public • Work's metal quarry at Athenree.
