NAVAL "AT HOME."

GAY SCENES ON REPULSE.

Despite the inclement weather yesterday the ship's company's "At home" on board H.M.S. Repu'se was a distinct success. Some 3000 invitations were issued, and those attending, mostly ladies, numbered between 1500 and 2000. In honour of the occasion the naval ratings had spared no pains to decorate the ship. The ceremonial awning was rigged, and the quarter-deck was ablaze with coloured light. - Dancing began about 3 p.m., to the music of the seamen's jazz band. Tea was served later in the men's messes, and here also much thought had been given to the beautifying of the quarters. Apart from the fixed programme there were numerous side attractions, and these were fully availed of by the children and others.
