The Daily Mail's £1000 professional golf tournament was won by the young Lansdown (Bath) professional, Charles A. Whitcombe. Following on a wonderful first round of 70 yesterday, which broke, the course record, he accomplished a marvellous fourth round in 69. His aggregate score was 289 for the four rounds, which is a British championship course record. The previous best 72holfi record over a championship course was the 291 by James Braid (Surrey) at Prcstwick (Ayrshire) in 1903. • *

The young Lansdown professional, C. A. Whitcombe, was born at Burnham and is now 28 years of age. He was previously engaged at Marlborough. He won the West of England professional championship in 1921, and finished fifth in the open championship in 1922. His favouiito shots are the driving iron and the half mashie.
