TRAGEDY IN COURT.
AGED DEFENDANT COLLAPSES.
DEATH QUICKLY' FOLLOWS.

WELLINGTON. Friday. '
A. police prosecution in the Magistrate's Court to-day had a tragic ending, yhen the defendant collapsed and' died soon after hearing the magistrate's ' decision.
The case was one in which the police proceeded against Patrick. Cavanagh, a dairyman, aged over 70, residing at Kaiwarra, for alleged ill-treatment of a calf. When defendant, who occupied a seat in the body of the Court, heard the magistrate (Mr. Page) state that he thought, a conviction would have to be entered, h's head fell forward on to' the table l at which he was sitting. Defendant was carried into en adjoining room and Dr. Henry was summoned. Ten minutes later Sub-Inspector Cameron informed the Court that the defendant had died.
