FRUIT AND PRODUCE.
Business still remains fair at the City Markets, bidding at yesterday's sales being as brisk as formerly. Fruit was in plentiful supply and of good variety. The scarcity of passion fruit as the season closes resulted in record prices being realised. The following -prices were realised:— FRUIT. There was a good variety of apple® available. Delicious No. 1 brought from lis to 14s per case, while other grades realised 6s to 103 per case. Jonathans ranged in price from 0a to 10s, Dohertys from 6s to 8s for large, and 4s to 6s for small. Cookers brought prices from 6s to Bs. Winter Cole pears realised 18s to 15s, Keifier"s Ge to §3, and cookers from 7s to 8s pes case. Choice tomatoes brought from 12s 6d per case, other 'qualities realising 4s to 6s per case. Hothouse tomatoes realised 13s to 14s, and lOd to Is Id per lb. Choice grapes brought 8s 6d per lb, other grades bringing 2s per lb. Cape gooseberries from 6d to 7s per lb. Green bananas, ex wharf, realised 19s per crate, ripe repacks selling for 23s to 265. Mandarins brought 10s to 15s per case, repacked- , oranges lis to 12s. American oranges 40s per case. Sydney grapes realised 12s to 14s per case, pineapples. bringing 12s ,to 17b for the same quantity. The few passion fruit brought from 23s to 25e per oase. Persimmons and tree tomatoes brought ±rom 3s 6d to 63, and 4s to 7s Cd per case respectively. PRODUCE. Best Southern potatoes realised from 10s to 10s 6d per owt, while Australians ranged from 9s 6d to 9a 9d. Australian onions sold at 14s per cwt. Swede turnips were W heavy supply, prices ranging from 8b to 5s per cwt. Kumaras realised from 3s to 5s per sugar bag. Cabbages were of poor quality, and brought 2s to 7a 6d per sack, and the same prices per dozen loose. Lettuce realised from Gd to 2s per dozen. Peas and beana brought 9d to lOd and 4Jd to 6}d per lb respectively. Celery brought 9d to 3b per bundle, rhubarb 2s to 3a per dozen ' bundles. Cauliflowers ranged from 8d to 2a 2d each. Vegetable marrows brought Is 6d to 4s per dozen, cucumbers 6s to 10s per case, chokos 6d to Is per dozen, leeks 5d to 9d per bundle, while carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips realised from 6d to Is. per dozen bundles. DAIRY PRODUCE. Good supplies of eggs came forward, but there was still a larger proportion of duck eggs than hen eggs. The following pricesper dozen wore realised: —Hen eggs, 3s 3d to 3s 6d, duck eggs, 2s 7d to 9 9d; pullet eggs, 2s lOid to 3s lid. Farmers' butter was in medium supply. In lib pats. Is to Is 5d per lb was realised, according to quality, the average price- being low. In bulk the prices ranged from lid to Is per lb, and the quality was generally good.
POULTRY. Heavy cockerels, 4s to 6a 6d each: light cockerels, 2s 6d to 4s each; heavy hens, 2 9 Cd to 4s each; light hens, la 6d to 2s 6d each; ducks, 23 6d to 4s 6d - each; drakes, 2s to 3s 6d.
