YACHTSMEN'S ADVENTURE.
DRIVEN ON TO THE ROCKS
More than one boat/ was caught napping by the sudden southerly squall which came up at Wellington last Sunday afternoon, and in one case at least a yacht suffered from the vicissitudes of the weather.. This was the 18ft'. centreboard yacht Illinois, which was driven ashore near Karaka Bay. The three occupants failed to see the squall approaching, and were unprepared, consequently, when the wind came along the vessel missed stays and swung in towards the shore. An anchor which was thrown out failed to hold, and the wind and sea carried the craft right on to the rocks. Luckily, the shock was not very severe, and the only damage sustained was a plank knocked in and the centre-board badly bent. >
