BOROUGH OF CAMBRIDGE.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
STOCK ROUTE ALTERNATIVES [BT telegraph.—own correspondent.] CA'MB-IIIXKj-U, Friday. The Cambridge Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. H. Priestly, presiding. 'It was reported that the AuditorGeneral had put a tag on the balancesheet stating that no provision had been made for depreciation of the gas plant, and therefore the credit of the gas trading account was over stated.
As a result of a meeting of the Mayor with delegates from the Farmers' Union, in connection with the proposed new stock route, the following alteration had met with approval: Fat stock and - sheep, to be driven via Fort and Anzao Streets, other stock via Fort and Albert Streets, Thornton Road, Bowen and King Streets, Drovers, however, could go through Robinson Street at option.
Regret was expressed that Mr. H. Alan Bell had been compelled to resign from the council owing to inadvertently having last year accepted payments from tha council amounting to lis over the statutory limit of £10. The Mayor referred to the splendid services rendered for many years by Mr. Bell, and added that many good men were debarred from entering into the service of the public. Accounts amounting to £327 14s 4d were passed for payment.
