MURIWAI BEACH APPROVED.
GRANT FOR IMPROVEMENT.
The council of the Auckland Automobile Association met last evening, Mr. J. A. Warnock, vice-president, presiding.
The New Zealand Automobile Union requested the association to enumerate the dangerous railway crossings near Auckland. It was decided to reply that the crossing on the Mount Albert-Point Chevalier Road, and those at New Lynn, Penrose, Massey Road, Manger* and King Street, Newmarket, were re garded as a menace to public safety,Some discussion ensued upon the question of officially recommending Hotels to touring motorists. Mr. Wynyard said tho proprietors of country hotels had been circularised with a proposal that they co-operate with the association. Tho scheme had not been well received. One member said the incorporation of the names of reputable hotels in a handbook of tours would prove of great assistance to motorists. The scheme was referred to the legislation committee. The Motutara Domain Board wrote asking for financial assistance in re-con ditioning the approaches to Muriwai Beach. The work proposed consisted if levelling the incline known as Cordroy Hill, which proved such an obstacle and blocked the outlet from the beach at th* recent race meeting. Mr. Farrell said the formation of this stretch before the next races was necessary. Mr. G. H. Henning was deputed to inform the board that the association was prepared to make a grant of £25 and to advance an additional £25 out of the board's share of the takings of the next meeting, if this work was undertaken. Eighteen new members were elected.
