SQUADRON RUGBY TEAM.
MATCH AGAINST PONSONBY. j WIN FOR LOCAL PLAYERS. The Busby match between .* team .of midshipmen from Special Service Squadron and the- Ponsonby third «ra<«e intermediate team at the Domain yesterday resulted in a victory, for Ponsonby. by 41 points to 11. Tho visitors were. handicapped by not being able to put their full team in the field, their complement being maa« up by local players. . . ■ , _ '•• ■ , The combination of the speedy Ponsonby. b*cks, who handled the ball in. good stylo, stood them in good stead against .their heavier opponents, and was . the primary cause of their victory. The victors showed a tendency to hold on to the ball too long and they lost opportunities through a natural lack of combination, Ponsonby nad the best of the game practically throughout, thanks principally to their backs, whi. outclassed the visitors. At half-time the local team -was leading by 14 points to 3. The squadron team made several sustameo efforts in the second spell and though they could not keep Ponsonby's score down, they increased their own to 11 by strong attacks.
