ROADING AT CHELTENHAM.
I The Deyoriport Borough.Council met' last evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. Laraont, presiding. There were also present, Messrs. E. H. Little, A. V. Fnt,si, S. Bond, W. : Perry-Taylor, J. Mays, & Lux- - ford, E. A]drid#;e, J. Hislop. . . The formal handing over of the-war" memorial by the : War Memorial Com-, mittee is to take place, at a social on Thursday evening. Messrs. Little and ; Aldridge were appointed to attend and , accept all documents relative to- ; the memorial on behalf of the.council. \ c ' 3The North Devonport Ratepayers', Asso-; ciation wrote tasking l additional lights in that area. : The: Mayor stated that the question of ; street lighting in the borough would be considered when the ; estimates were framed. . : ' The council ; agreed ,to ; make ;; up. the; loss I of pay to ": the firemen;i who \ were '. injured•■•• in the-recent accident. v A claim for compensation in respect, of the death * of. the deputy-superintendent was referred to thi borough solicitor. - - tenders were received fox* the.drainage in North Devonport; the lowest tender, £3035, was. accepted, subject to the engineer's perusal. The engineer ; was * authoi/sed to purchase an air compressor plant for the council's .quarry at "a .tender--.. -" price of £555. The negotiations with -' the Takapuna Borough Council for permission; to .erect a transmission line to the pumping station having extended ■ over a considerable period -jj without finality-having: been reached, the ~c council decided to. solicit-the assistance ;of the Minister for Public Works if arrangements cannot be satisfactorily arrived at within"the next few days. . \ '• . :, The resident engineer submitted, plans , > for th« completion :of % the. 'concrete - read- ■•• ing - scheme in the Cheltenham area. ; -•-.. It was '■■■ resolved that Works Commit /; inspect the , area before passing;the plans and submitting them to the council. ". Several ; complaints will be investigated ,by the Works Committee on \ its ? visit of in- ? spection through the borough on Tuesday.
