""■ The liabilities were £2449 19s 9d. Secured debts were estimated at £13 .12s 6d, with securities valued at £70. :■-..: The assets totalled £726 16s 6d, the principal items being , stock-in-trade and plant, £340 and : book debts, £300. The deficiency was i thus £1723 3s 3d. * . 1 . Loan from RVeads. In his statement Martin said he opened , a grocery business in Rotorua in , 1920 ; with £40 capital. . For some time the business showed good profits, and then | suffered a \ set-back through losses on fruit-selling: lines, and as the result of ,a change : in" the half-holiday, necessitating his giving up a lucrative line of refreshment business. Bankrupt borrowed £650 : from friends ;• to build ?: up the business, also giving a bill of sale ever the stock in order to obtain further credit- Business increased,: and bankrupt moved into larger premises. Owing to the difficulty of getting money in from customers, bankrupt borrowed a further sum,; taking the lender into the business on wages.
