ACCIDENT LATE AT NIGHT.
DANGEROUS DRIVING ALLEGED

The ;v sequel to a motor-car collision in Williamson Avenue, Grey; Lynn, on • the night of March 22, was heard before Mr. J. ;..■ W. - Poynton, - S.M., .' in ■ the ' Police Court yesterday, when Cyril .Doughs Rusden (Mr. Northcroft) pleaded not guilty to dangerous * driving. Seniorbergeant Rawle : conducted = the ■ case for ■ «* Rrof43cution, - and ; Mr. t "Wilson- appeared on behalf of : the insurance companies , concerned. . ■-.'•»'■ Roy Collins, aged 21, ; who was driving the other car concerned in the accident, stated that (at ; 11.25 p.m., while * conveying ,five people back from; the , ; Muriwa l races, he saw the lights of defendant's c/jjr toning into Williamson -. Avenue, from Surrey Street, at a; speed -, of ? from 30 to 36 miles an hour. Witness swerved quickly into ;; Surrey' Street to avoi</t a collision, and applied his brakes, but defendant's car struck his and turned it over on the; kerbing^iii; the side st/*et. Witness sustained> a v sprained ' wrist*, but did not lose consciousness, and whon he ! looked round the other car had disappeared. Witness' father, Mr. William, Collins, who Was in -the" rear sen/L was rendered unconscious. The car, a'Studebaker, was damaged to the • exjtent of about £200.
To Mr. North'ci-oft, witness said he was travelling at between .15 and 20 miles an hour. ■, There were three persons in> the float seat, but it was not overcrowded. He was forced to turn into Surrey Street to avoid •■': ah- inevitable: head-on : f collision. t':;.
