SENTENCE ON E. W. BAXTER.

■ A sentence of four ■ years' imprisonment in Goulburn l Gaol was passed -at .the patlinghurst Sessions, Sydney, last Friday, upon . Ernest William ■, Baxter, aged ; 44, private detective, who had been convicted on a charge of having attempted to suborn a witness. Baxter asked for leniency, on the ground that he .was without; means, and that, while he was kept in gaol, his wife and four children; the eldest being nine years, would be a charge on the State. ;; In passing sentence, Judge ; Beeby said that it was quite obvious that Baxter was a man from whom society , should be protected.
