RAILWAY v CLERK CHARGED. DISTINGUISHED WAR RECORD,* BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] . WELLINGTON, Wednesday. ■:■■:"■-A railway clerk named Victor Roche Bond came before the Magistrate's Court to-day on charges )or having forged two cheques of £12 each. The cheques were passed on to • hotelkeepers. The cheques purported to {be signed by D. Scott, of Scott and Martindale, who gave ; evidence that the signatures were not his. 'f; The chief, detective said * the body of the .cheques; were typewritten, and expert evidence would be called to 'show, that 'the type on the {j cheques was identical with that on a machine used by accused at his office.■-■. v / : Application was made ; for /the / suppression of the name of accused, who, it was stated, occupied a position of trust in the department, and had a record of /good war service, having risen from sergeant to captain,, 'and tbeen wounjded three times. /The '. application refused - and the case was adjourned for a week.
