ALLEGED HORSE-STEALING.
YOUNG FARMERS CHARGED;
EVIDENCE FOR PEOSECUTIoi
Charges of ; horse-stealing; were preferred at the Supreme Court yesterday, before Mr. Justice Herdman, against three young men, Clyde Powell Ludwig (Mr. Singer), Walter Barraclough (Mr. Mason), and Percy McGilviay (Mr. Sullivan). The specific ofi'enca alleged was that of having, on September 26, 1923, at Otaua, stolen 15 horsey of a total value of £195; and in the alternative with having received the horses knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Mr. Paterson prosecuted on behalf of the Crown. , ■
The case for the Crown .was that 15 horses belonging to different owners disappeared in September last from . Otaua, near Waiuku. r Accused were seen in the locality, and some of them were seen driving horses from the district. Subsequently the horses were found at Ludwig's farm at Otorohanga. It 'was alleged that Ludwig was / the principal, offender ■ and the other prisoners - his' abettors. , X ' - -
