At its meeting at Te Aroha the Piako Rugby Union decided to lodge a . challenge with the Thames Rugby Union for a game for the Birch Challenge Cup, a trophy presented to. the Thames Union for competition among teams representing the various sub-unions throughout Thames Valley. This is the first year .of the competition. An A and B "representative match will be played on Saturday . between » senior "teams affiliated with the Piako Rugby Union, with a view to selecting the representatives to play 'Hauraki Plains at Ngatea on May 31, in the first round for the 'Poland Memorial Cup, which is at present held by tho Plains. :: v
