ACADEMIC HONOURS.
TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS
A long list of university successes won •by past and present students of the Auckland Training College was received yesterday by the Education Board from the principal of the Training College, Mr; H. D. Cousins. Special mention was made of the conspicuous success achieved by four students—Mr. H. E. Becroft, M.A., returned soldier, who obtained : his ' degree with first-class honours in ;' philosophy (1922); Mr. H. G. Johnston, M.A., also a returned soldier, first-class ■ honours .in history (1913) j;; Mr. W. McKinlay, M.A., first-class honours in education, and the first student in New Zealand who has won this distinction ? and Mr. A. B. .Thompson, 8.A., senior. scholarship in education, the first student in New Zealand to win this scholarship. Mention was also made of the successes of Messrs. S. A. La Roche, C. R. Laws, and R. C. Wilson, who won the degree of Bachelor of Science. • • -• .1
. " I am gUil to seo that Auckland at last is coming into its own," remarked the chairman of ; the board, in commenting on these successes. "It means -that the plums .of the profession will no longer go >to graduates of southern colleges, but will be available for our Auckland teachers."
