SHOT BY A MAORI.
FARM MANAGER WOUNDED. SEQUEL TO ALTERCATION. INJURIES NOT SERIOUS. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] WANG AN UI. Sunday. An exciting incident occurred six miles from Bulls to-day. A Maori, who, it is believed, is deranged, had an altercation with Mr. Ross, manager of a farm belonging to Mr. Robert Russell, of Wanganui. Mr. Ross galloped on horseback from the Maori, who fired three shots at him with a rifle, the third shot taking effect in Mr. Ross' shoulder. The Wanganni police were informed that the Maori had barricaded himself, and was firing at passers-by. A number of armed policemen went to the scene, but on their arrival they found that the man had already been anested by a constable. The arresting constable was wearing a military overcoat. The Maori, who was wearing a similar coat, came forward, it is stated, and saluted, and was taken in charge. The injuries to Mr. Ross are not believed to be serious.
