FUNCTIONS ON SATURDAY.

SAILORS PLAYING FOOTBALL. [UT TELEGRAPH. —PRES3 ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. A party of men from the warships were conveyed to-day on observation tramcirs to different parts of the city, accommodation being provided for two hundred. A team took part in an Association football match, Fleet v. Wellington. The admiral, captains, and officers were the guests of the Rugby Union at Athletic Park, and to an Orphans' Club entertainment at the Town Hail. It was intended to play an Association football match on May 3 against a New Zealand team, but owing to the railway strike it is doubtful if a Dominion team can be assembled. If it should be impossible to get a representative team, a second game will be played against a Wellington eleven.
