The Horowhenua County Council is responsible for the maintenance of 50 miles of main highway, which has already been damaged to the extent of £7000 or £8000 by the stream of motor traffic. Fifty me? and nine motor-lorries hava been put on, but doubt is expressed of their ability to keep the road open. Speed is said to be the chief factor m the disintegration of the surface.
