PRESIDENT OF AMERICA.
THE COMING ELECTION. MR. COOLIDGE'S STRENGTH. NOMINATION ASSURED. By TelegraphPreso AssociationCopyrisbt. (Received 8.40 p.m.) A. and N.Z. NEW YORK, April 20. The chairman of Mr. Calvin Coolidge's campaign committee, Mr. Butler, formally announces that the President has already secured the support of a sufficient | number of delegates to the Republican National Convention to be held on June 10 to assure his nomination on the first ballot as Republican candidate for the Presidency. Mr. Butler states that the Convention will consist of 1109 delegates,' the support of 555 of whom is necessary for the nomination. He says that 563 delegates have already been chosen who have been instructed to select Mr. Coolidge, or who have expressed their intention of doing so. The chief method by which the delegates receive their instructions is the socalled primary, at which only members of the party can vote. These members indicate whom they desire to nominate for the Presidency at the National Convention. The greater number of the primaries have already been held. The results allow that beyond doubt Mr. Coolldgo will be the Republican nominee. It is now expected that serious dissension may occur over the choice of the vice-president.
