INDIAN CONSTITUTION.
THE HOME RULE ISSUE. HOME GOVERNMENT'S IDEAL. STATUS OF A DOMINION. AN INQUIRY BEING HELD, MR. MACDONALD HOPEFUL. By Telegraph Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Renter. LONDON. April 20. Speaking at the conference of the Independent Labour Party at York, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, stated that Dominion status for India was the Labour Government's ideal. He appesJed to his Indian friends to *'do their bit" for British democracy and keep their faith in the Labour Government. The Prime Minister declared that a Government inquiry was now being held, which was not a matter of mere expediency or wasting of time, but must produce results which would be the basis of consideration when the time came to draft the Indian Constitution. He hoped it would help Indians to co-operate toward the creation of a system which would give them self-government.
