THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.

RETURN TO WELLINGTON. The Governor-General, Lord .Icllicoe, left Auckland by the mid-day express yesterday, in order to welcome the British Empire naval squadron on its arrival at Wellington. He was accompanied by i Commander Dove, A.D.C. His Excellency's departure was hastened owing to the railway strike. He was to have attended the races at Ellerslie yesterday and to leave for Wellington this evenuii'. On receipt of advice from the Government, however, his plans were changed, and he departed by. the mid-day Main Trunk express. His Excellency's future movement,? are now uncertain, but the original arrangement was that he was to return to Auckland at the beginning of May. Lady Jellicoe remains in Auckland.
