CARRIAGE OF MAILS.
MOTORS AND STEAMERS.
MINIMISING DELAYS.
ARRANGEMENTS BEING MADE
The despatching of mails will be considerably delayed by the railway trouble, but the Postal Department is making arrangements to run as efficient services as are possible. Mr. W. J. Gow, the chief postmaster at Auckland, received instructions last night to utilise the present motor services and augment them with the department's motors where required. Special services will also be run by the department's motors. There will not be any restriction as regards any particular mail matter, as the department will be prepared to forward all kinds of postal packets received. On previous occasions when tho postal service has been interrupted only letters were forwarded on motor routes. Besides the motor service the department will utilise all available steamers on both coasts. The Rarawa, leaving Onehunga for New Plymouth this afternoon, will probably take all the southern mail offering, and mails for Wellington and the South will also bo despatched by the Atua, leaving Auckland probably to-morrow. ■ . i « During the previous railway trouble arrangements were made for the Rarawa to make an extra trip a week, but as the strike was of short duration it ended before the steamer commenced running on the new time-table. It is possible similar arrangements will be made during the present trouble.
