STOCKS AND SHARES.

There were only two calls on the Auckland sharemarket on Thursday, operations ceasing after fho midday call until after the Easter holidays. will resume on April 28. The tone of tho market on Thursday was unchanged, there being general inquiry for investment stocks. In Government securities there was a sale of New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1927, at £97 Tin 6d, with further inquiry at £97 15s. AW other Government loan 1 issues had inquiry at recent rates, holders not quoting. In banks New Zealands had buyers at 525, sellers 52s 6d; Union of Australia, buyers £14 9s, sellers £14 12s. There was inquiry for Australasias at £13 3s, and for New South Wales at £40 10s. In insurances New Zealands, available at 30s, had buyers at 29s 6dThere was inquiry for South British at 41s. In coals there were transactions in Taupiris at 18s 9d, late buyers offering the same figure, sellers 19b 3d. In shipping Devonport Steam Ferry were inquired for at 26s 9d. Huddart-Parkers had buyers at 42s 6d, sellers 435; Union Steam Ship (pref.)- .buyers 19s 6d, sellers 20s 6d. P. and 0. . deferred stock were quoted at £300. In timbers there was a sale of Kauris at 29s 6d, with further buying offers at 295, sellers '30s. In mining business was done in Waihi Grand Junctions at 3s 8d and 3s 9d, late buyers offering 3s 7d, sellers 3s 9d. Waihis had buyers at 31s od, sellers 325; Moanataiaris, buyers 2s, sellers 2s Bd. The following sales took place: New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1927, £97 17s 6d; Taupiri Coal, 18s 9d; Kauri Timber, 29s 6d; Waihi Grand uunction, 3s Bd, 3s 9d.
