LIP-READING FOR DEAF.
CLASSES IN AUCKLAND.
A most commendable work, little-known to the general public, but of real benefit to a large number of the afflicted, is being carried on at the Myers Kindergarten in the form of lip-reading adult classes for the deaf. These classes were started in 1921, and since that time over 40 Auckland men and women have taken advantage of .them. There are at present only about half-a-dozen attending the classes, which are held every Tuesday evening at the kindergarten, and are under the direction' of Miss Clare, of the Sumner School for the Deaf and Dumb. * ! Those who are attending the classes declare that they have received considerable benefit, and have been able to take a more active interest in life than formerly. Many of those who have attended the classes have become reasonably proficient in the course of a few months. The classes, which are under the direction of the Education Department, are free, arid it is the hope of the director that as they become more widely known, many Aucklanders will take advantage of the opportunities they offer.
