DRESSMAKER'S FAILURE.
BUSINESS AT NEWMARKET. LACK OF EXPERIENCE. Lack of business experience , and a promise of financial help which was not fulfilled were stated to be the causes of the bankruptcy of Miss Amy Ellis, dressmaker, of Newmarket, a meeting of whose creditors was held yesterday. The official assignee, Mr. W. S. Fisher, presided. Bankrupt's liabilities total £242 2s Id, including £219 17s 6d owing to unsecured creditors, and £22 4s 7d to secured creditors. Her assets are "valued at £211 lis 4d, leaving a deficiency of £30 10s 9d. Bankrupt stated thaC she commenced business last April, and in December moved to a shop involving an increase in rent of £3 15s. Shortly after Christmas business became slack and at the beginning of February she realised she was in debt. She carried on in hopes of receiving £100 from a friend as promised, but she had not received the money. When she "started! business en her own account she had a few pounds of her own. The official assignee was requested to take steps to recover a showcase which had been removed from the shop allegedly without permission. A creditor was appointed to arrange for winding up the estate.
