TO-DAY'S FORECAST. i - . GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last night as follows: —Present indications are for strong easterly to northerly winds northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and variable breezes, with south-easterlies prevailing, and backing to northerlies shortly elsewhere. Weather cool and changeable generally, with heavy showers probably in the northern and East Coast districts. Barometer rising in the north and falling soon m the south. HERALD SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. "Vincent last evening —Further unsettled weather, with additional heavy rain, is indicated, par ticularlv in northern and East Coast districts, though some improvement of a temporary nature should take place shortly. Easterly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, freshening, and squally at times. Seas rough and increasing on East Coast. Little change has taken place in the distribution of atmospheric pressure, though the high barometric pressure system over the Dominion has intensified, especially in the south.
