BRITAIN'S BASE METALS.
INVESTIGATIONS URGED. A. and N.Z. LONDON. April 4. Sir Thomas H. Holland, president, speaking at the dinner of the Institute of Mining Metallurgists, said that though many inquiries were conducted into Britain's coal and iron resources, none were carried out into the supplies of base metals, though the Empire was not producing even Britain's peace-time requirements of copper, lead, or zinc. The forthcoming Mining and Metallurgical Conference at Wembley ought to inquire into the problem.
