A party of American totiTisCs successfully negotiated the Rangiriri Bills • today in two • motor-cars. They left the Rangiriri Hotel at 9 a.m. and arrived at Mercer at 4 p.m., thus taking seven hours to cover Che 14 miles. The motorists had no chains or other non-skid equipment, and the ontiro journey was a continuous straggle in which all hands were required to assist the progress of the vehicles. * ... Upon their arrival at Mercer the party, although wet and tired, were quit© amused and elated at their success in traversing the notorious road, and expressed themselves as delighted with the attractions of the Dominion. A number of people made the £rip from Rangiriri 'Mercer by launch, among them being a motorcyclist who elected to take his machine down the river rather than attempt to ride overland.
