AUCKLAND'S GOOD SAMARITANS.
V —Kindly grant mo - space to tell "my ' . little story.' • Frota the country t through the pages of the Heßald, I have gleaned ;; a few facts about 1 tie public appreciation of the . Auckland team service. I have ' learned that in the- crowded seasons of r traffic, the ? gentlemen * passenger? : J. kindly gave up * their -seats! to those ladies who had boarded the cars too late to secure, seats. Since my arrival in the city 1 have observed many instances . of this courtesy, But I was not prepared to find that the same kindness was extended to • ■ the agod passengers also,' until I wis made ' to receive these neighbourly acta of comfort Myself, and so, promptly^ was the kindness offered that . I had not.,had the time to : disoover 'my.. need of it,.y>l.- was further impressed by the presence 'of this Christian spirit pervading the atmosphere of the train traffic 'when one day a lady, near where 1 1, had entered the car, arose and - pointed me to her seat. r I thought ,/*' she intended to leave the car at once, but after a while, when I saw.: that she had remafthsd standing, I understood that she had kindly vacated her seat to give me & rest! But I also found the tram ; officials were always as kind as anyone could wish; in their usual treatment "of their weak 'and invalid 1 passengers, i Still . another instance of this Good Samaritan - kindness abroad in this city, of ; a kind I did not expect, occurred in my favour when walking home the other day. , I was on." the footpath of a busy," street about noon, when a "gentleman cooling. behind touched me as' he passed, saying, "Sir, your, bootlace is trailing," .Then; •W'ith half a'" look back, he. paused on the instant and, stooping to my feet, he had • laced and tied it in-the quickest, of time, and without looking up or Tittering a word, with a long, stooping stride h"> was 1 goca! I could only utter my gratitude, -vy. and I quickly hastened to say, "The Lordv , will do a. service. for you, .my friend/' bait • ' scarcely in tirca ; for him to catch a word of" it. Permit me, as : one of the agw». to express my reverent thanks to pw'artd all who are daily showing . kTfidnpCfe* to;,<: the 1 aged < and':; the infirm : of-, this ;£it y* <* r elsewhere, and-with this parting . remind all; thai '' Jesa§ has i said,- „ , much . . . <*<»» * ' A (!£«&.
