THE BEAUTY WHICH LASTS.
There is a book recently brought by a Frenchman, which portrays the beautiful women of all countries. In nearly every case the subject is that of a woman who is married, of a woman who has had children, of a woman who knows the problems life offers, and whose solutions have brought character to the surface. Now, if it is true that the older woman is the more beautiful woman, it is also true that grace is of more importance than the beauty which is fleeting. And it is comforting to think that no woman is too old to be beautiful in the larger sense of .the word. Beauty of figure and of line, which is a large part of grace, has something of the eternal about it. To be sure, it means discipline, but all development means that. If you like chocolates and a fireside chair better than a brisk walk in the open, then you will never delight the eyes of your friends, with your flowing walk in " Peacock Alley." You must not be fat! At least, there is a point of fatness beyond which you must not go. You need not reduce to the ideal weight to be attractive, to be sure, but you need to be thin enough to be supple and not lazy. Then you need to know your defects, that you may minimise them. If you will wear high collars with a short neck; tailored clothes when your type is ruffles; or slouch when you should be regal, then this article is not for you, and the word " grace " has no meaning in your dictionary.
